After the mandatory National Youth service corps programme at the law firm of Messrs. E. A. Ibrahim Effiong & Co. in Jalingo, Taraba State, Mr Zubairu, mni settled for Private legal practice with the reputable Law firm of Messrs Y. C. Maikyau (SAN) & Co where he was exposed to the rudiments of practice in the field of Civil and Criminal litigation. He later graduated to handling of other Commercial Transactions, Arbitration, banking and Insurance matters. He rose through the ranks during his seven (7) years pupillage to be Head of Litigation and subsequently the Head of Chambers.

 

He has acted as Counsel in several high-profile cases from the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal and the Federal/FCT and States High Courts around Nigeria. He also has some pro bono cases as part of his corporate social responsibility. Mr Zubairu, mni has also been appointed as Counsel/ Arbitrator in some domestic arbitration proceedings. Mr. Zubairu, mni has participated in Public Private Partnership (PPP) as Transaction Advisor for some Government institutions and private companies. Mr Zubairu has extended his area of practice to include Privacy Law having studied and was awarded a Course Certificate by the University of Pennsylvania in Privacy Law and Data Protection. Consequently, Ali Zubairu & Associates has been licensed as a Data Protection Compliance Officer (DPCO) by the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC). Mr Zubairu is an active member of the Nigerian Bar Association, International Bar Association (IBA), Chattered Institute of Arbitrators (UK/Nigeria) and he is currently the 2nd Vice Chairman of the Abuja Chapter, Nigerian Branch. He is also a Member of the Chattered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) and his firm Ali Zubairu & Associates was registered in February, 2019 with the International Chamber of Commerce Nigeria (ICCN). 

 

Mr Zubairu, mni has attended several conferences and trainings nationally and internationally on Arbitration, Mediation and on Privacy and Data Protection. Some of the trainings include; ICC Institute Advance Training on- Production of Documents In International Arbitration, New York, 2019; ICC Institute Advance Training on: Drafting Enforceable Awards in International Arbitration, Lagos Nigeria, 2019; DELOS – Dispute Resolution Paris, 2020 Edition of Remote Oral Advocacy Programme on Oral Submissions & Cross – Examination in International Commercial Arbitration and Investor – State – Arbitration, ICC Institute Advance Training on: Assessment of Damages by Arbitrators, Lagos Nigeria, 2022, ICC Institute Advance Training on-Dispute Boards, New York, 2022, National Workshop on the Reform of Capital Gains Tax, Act, 2004 organised by the Nigerian Law Reform Commission, 2023 as representative of the NBA. He was appointed a Notary Public by the Chief Justice of Nigeria in 2014. His hobbies include Reading, travelling, golfing, and working out in the gym.
